DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone)
Compound Type: Endogenous Steroid Hormone / Precursor
DHEA is the most abundant steroid hormone in the human body, produced by the adrenal glands. It is the “Parent Hormone” that eventually converts into Testosterone and Estrogen. It is famously included in older male enhancement formulas like Extenze.
However, DHEA is controversial. Unlike herbal boosters (like Tribulus), DHEA is an actual hormone. Adding it to your system when you don’t need it can disrupt your body’s natural feedback loops.
Does DHEA Increase Penis Size?
It depends entirely on your age. DHEA levels peak at age 25 and decline rapidly thereafter. If you are over 40, supplementing can restore youthful vigor and erection quality. If you are under 30, it can actually hurt your gains.
The Science: The “Estrogen Roulette”
1. The Conversion Problem:
DHEA does not automatically become Testosterone. It converts into androstenedione, which can then convert into Testosterone OR Estrogen. In young men with already high hormone levels, the body often forces the conversion to Estrogen to maintain balance. This can lead to gynecomastia (man boobs) and water retention.
2. Age-Related Decline:
Clinical studies confirm that DHEA supplementation improves erectile function specifically in men with low DHEA levels (usually older men). It is not a performance enhancer for young, healthy males.
3. Cortisol Balance:
DHEA is the antagonist to Cortisol (stress hormone). High stress kills erections. By balancing cortisol, DHEA can indirectly support a better environment for tissue healing and growth, provided you are deficient to begin with.
⚠ The Verdict: AGE RESTRICTED
Over 40 Only. We do NOT recommend DHEA for men under the age of 35 unless directed by a doctor. The risk of hormonal imbalance (estrogen spikes) outweighs the benefits. If you are older, this is a 4-star supplement. If you are young, stick to Zinc and Ashwagandha.
